The Tiny Book Of Huge Joys

The Tiny Wife – Andrew Kaufman

I stumbled upon a thin, small red book hidden amongst the usual books. It was the only copy with a beautiful cover. I picked it up. And I am glad I did.

It is an unusual story about a robbery and its consequences. From the beginning with the theft, till the end it is filled with nothing normal. The thief steals from the 10 people in the bank – not money but things which hold the most emotional value for them at that moment. So someone gives a key, an envelope, a picture, a calculator and such strange stuff. Important thing here is that the robber has not just taken these material things, but also along with them 51% of each victim’s soul. The people have to now think of ways to grow back the lost soul else they are doomed.

The consequences of the robbery are bizarre too. A tattoo comes to life, a woman realizes she is made up of candy and gets eaten up by her husband, another lady’s husband turns into a snowman and one woman (the author’s wife) finds herself shrinking and shrinking till one day she just might disappear.

The tiny book, I must say was a very entertaining an engaging read.
